Samuel Brown, Personal Development Specialist and Founder of Faith and Effort.

Samuel was born in Williamsport, PA, and is the youngest of four children. At an early age, Samuel experienced homelessness and witnessed the impact of mounting family pressures. Looking for acceptance, belonging, and connection, Samuel instead showed his frustration and anger at school, which resulted in suspensions, concerns, and threats to send him to boarding school. Samuel wanted a change in his life but wasn't sure how to make it happen. Thankfully, life has a way of bringing the right person, to the right place, at the right time.

While in high school, Samuel made the varsity basketball team and quickly noticed how his peers seemed to follow his lead even though he wasn’t a starting player. Liking this feeling, Samuel challenged himself to seek other opportunities to develop his leadership ability. He applied for and was selected to participate in the Coatesville Youth Initiative (CYI) ServiceCorps program, a leadership development program designed to train the next generation of leaders. Basketball and CYI were a catalyst in Samuel’s life creating opportunities to build his confidence, lead by example, and inspire them. He also vowed to seek new experiences in life.

In the fall of 2013, Samuel stepped on Millersville University's campus as a freshman studying business management. History threatened to repeat itself as Samuel struggled for acceptance and to find his place on campus. As fate would have it, Samuel received an invitation to attend a Black Student Union meeting, which would change the trajectory of his college experience. Samuel became a member of the BSU Executive Board and later President of the organization. Samuel’s involvement with the Executive Board offered the opportunity to be challenged and rise to the occasion. This culminating experience helped Samuel discover his purpose in life; to help others identify their challenges, learn from the experience, and overcome them.

Samuel has 8 years experience in progressive leadership roles in the youth development field. Committed to making a difference in others' lives, Samuel became a Life Skills instructor with Valley Youth House, where he honed his curriculum development, relationship management, and talents building collaborative partnerships. Intrigued by the opportunity to give back to the organization that launched his professional career, Samuel joined the Coatesville Youth Initiative team as a Program Coordinator overseeing youth and alumni development, community engagement, and prevention.

In 2018, Samuel launched his motivational speaking company called Faith and Effort. Through speaking engagements, masterclasses, and mentoring, Faith and Effort empower individuals to believe in themselves to start to create a lifestyle they envision.

Samuel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Communication with a concentration in Public Relations from Millersville University.
